Symmetric Categorial Grammar
نویسنده
چکیده
The Lambek-Grishin calculus is a symmetric version of categorial grammar obtained by augmenting the standard inventory of type-forming operations (product and residual left and right division) with a dual family: coproduct, left and right difference. Interaction between these two families is provided by distributivity laws. These distributivity laws have pleasant invariance properties: stability of interpretations for the Curry-Howard derivational semantics, and structure-preservation at the syntactic end. The move to symmetry thus offers novel ways of reconciling the demands of natural language form and meaning. 1

Scope Ambiguities through the Mirror
In this paper we look at the interpretation of Quantifier Phrases from the perspective of Symmetric Categorial Grammar. We show how the apparent mismatch between the syntactic and semantic behaviour of these expressions can be resolved in a typelogical system equipped with two Merge relations: one for syntactic units, and one for the evaluation contexts of the semantic values associated with th...
متن کاملThe Lambek-Grishin calculus for unary connectives
In traditional Lambek style categorial grammar, derivable objects are sequents of the form Γ⇒ C (where Γ in the antecedent could be considered as a product formulae context, whereas a succedent C is a single formula). The absence of a structural connective in the succedent of a sequent makes the whole system asymmetric. This asymmetry is overcome with the introduction of the plus connective, wh...

Combinatory Categorial Grammar is a lexicalised formalism which is mildly context-sensitive. Recently Set Combinatory Categorial Grammar, a direct descendent of Combinatory Categorial Grammar was proposed to treat local scrambling adequately. In this paper, we briefly sketch Set Combinatory Categorial Grammar analyses of various Korean syntactic phenomena including coordination, extraction and ...

In this article we will present a classification and an analysis, by means of Applicative and Combinatory Categorial Grammar (ACCG), of relative, completive and indirect interrogative propositions in French introduced by ”que” and ”qui”. Applicative and Combinatory Categorial Grammar is a generalization of standard Categorial Grammar. It is represented by a canonical association between Steedma...
متن کاملBook Review: Categorial Grammar: Logical Syntax, Semantics, and Processing by Glyn V. Morrill
The title of this book, Categorial Grammar: Logical Syntax, Semantics, and Processing, indicates that this will be a book about categorial grammar. In the preface, however, several strains of categorial grammar are discussed, including combinatory categorial grammar (Steedman 2000), pregroup grammar (Lambek 1999), and abstract categorial grammar (de Groote 2001), and it is clarified that the bo...
